Initial Claims in Florida spiked for the week ending December 31st, ending three consecutive weeks of decline. Given the volatility that is common with weekly claims, however, this is not much out of the ordinary; while there has been a steady downward trend for about six months now, occasional spikes every three or four weeks almost seems routine. Furthermore, continued claims declined by over 10,000 for the week, bringing it below 140,000 once again.
