Summary:
After a rocky start to July, Florida's initial claims for unemployment insurance finally returned to more favorable levels. The week ending July 21 saw a drop of about 1,900 in initial claims from the week prior--and that was following a drop of about 3,000 claims from the week before then. At 14,061, weekly claims are now at their lowest figure since May, which has caused the four-week moving average to drop down to 16,796 after two consecutive weeks above 17,000. However, continued claims in Florida remain high when compared with earlier this year, coming in at 144,636 in the week ending July 21. This has caused the insured unemployment rate to remain above two percent for third consecutive week.
